About The National Cafe at The National Gallery
Located a mere five minutes walk from the West End, The National Café is the perfect location for a large variety of events such as press night parties, dinner entertaining, corporate receptions and private celebrations. A rich mix of history and modern facilities make the National Café one of the more versatile and unique venues for hire in London.
The stunning space, recently redesigned by Paris-based Belgian designer Ramy Fischler features artwork from the gallery providing a unique and stunning backdrop for events up to 500 people for a standing reception and 100 people for a seated dinner.
Situated in the east wing of the iconic National Gallery, it is one of the largest event spaces within the gallery and benefits from its own private entrance overlooking St Martin-in-the-Fields.
History of the National Gallery and Café
As part of the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, The National Café is a venue that offers stunning catering options alongside 800 years of art history.
Founded in 1824, the gallery is home to over 2,300 paintings – growing from the original 38 purchased by the government from heirs of John Julius Angerstein in 1824.
The current location of the gallery is the third, and remains largely unchanged from its design in the 1830s with extensions (such as the Salisbury Wing in 1991) being built in a way that expands the space within the building without impacting the aesthetic look.
